A walk early on Saturday morning from the village to Tilton and back produced Bramblings again, this time on the Firle escarpment just to the east of the Plantation.
At least one bird was heard on two occasions, amongst the small groups of Chaffinches leaving the woods – perhaps leaving the roost for their regular feeding grounds behind Bo Peep? Would be good to see one on the deck sometime this winter – all mine so far seem to have been little brown jobs snorting as they fly away.
Other good passerines included five Fieldfares near Firle Beacon, and two Yellowhammers and a Bullfinch on the slopes at Tilton, where there was also a Hare.
At least two, probably three Buzzards were seen – one hunting low near Beanstalk seemed to be inspiring a Song Thrush to extraordinarily frenzied song – but no other raptors were seen.
