Cuckoo, Wheatears, Willow Warblers

On the lookout at Tilton Bostal

My first House Martin, Brimstone, Holly Blue and Bee Fly of 2010 around the garden on Saturday, but it was Sunday morning that Spring came with a rush.

During an early walk between the village and Tilton Bostal near BoPeep I bumped up the yearlist with another five new birds: a Cuckoo near the Plantation, four Willow Warblers (presumably all migrants, but each having a bit of a sing), a Common Whitethroat at Beanstalk, a Wheatear at Tilton with another super-smart male at Place Farm, and a Sand Martin over the escarpment.

Also a Redpoll (scarce in spring), territorial Linnets in four locations, a singing Yellowhammer just west of the Beacon and four Swallows, plus good numbers of Meadow Pipits and Skylarks all the way along the top. All under the bluest, contrail-free sky.
