Pyramidal Orchids

Pyramidal Orchid, Firle, June 2008A consolation while stuck in traffic on the A27 in the summer is noticing Pyramidal Orchids beside the road.

When they first appear, they are such neat, perfect things – every one noticed is like a little piece of treasure on the verge.

The first of this season’s flowers are finally emerging – this one was the only one along the stretch between Firle and Glynde when I photographed it, but when I passed today dozens had started to appear.
