Moth pics

Another morning bug-watching on the escarpment above Firle, finally with a camera in hand. This smart Six-spot Burnet looked freshly emerged to my untrained eye – it certainly didn’t seem keen to fly.Six-Spot Burnet, Firle, 4 Aug 2007

There were Cinnabar moth caterpillars hanging off the ragwort everywhere. Is it me or are they more active than your average caterpillar? Several of these were throwing themselves around quite violently.

There were still a couple of Marbled Whites (much reduced numbers on a month ago), and several skippers (I admit it, I haven’t the patience to get close and work out which ones they are). Still no blues.Cinnabar moth caterpillars on ragwort, Firle 4 Aug 2007
