Some good finds in the local area of late (sadly, none of them mine…)
Two weeks ago, 3 Cattle Egrets on Lewes Brooks. Rare visitors, but the Ouse Valley now seems to be their favourite place to turn up in the UK.
Last week, a Honey Buzzard reported flying in a SE direction over Malling Down. Surely it must have continued over Beddingham or Glynde – can we count it, can we?
Around the same time, a Red Kite reportedly seen very well at Glyndebourne.
Some really late, but hopefully not out-of-date news – a convenient Nightingale singing at Arlington in late May. Take the road between Berwick Station and Arlington, across the bridge over the river. The bird was singing in the hedge between here and the right angle bend in the road – perhaps it still is? I heard it about 10.10 on a still, warm night.
