A balmy morning (practically T-shirt weather) but the birds are decidedly autumnal.
At least one Redpoll flew through (following six yesterday), followed by a couple of Redwings. Three Yellowhammers over the centre of the village was a sign of the season too.
The sun seems to be encouraging Skylarks to sing, particularly in the fields by Bostal [...]

Lovely day for almost seeing some stuff

A lot moving overhead this morning, mainly Skylarks, Meadow Pipits, Chaffinches and Pied Wagtails.
In the village, Coal Tit, Grey Wagtail, Nuthatch and a single House Martin.
Up at the Plantation, usual suspects in the woodland (both woodpeckers, Jay, Treecreper), and on the escarpment/game cover just to the east, singing Chiffchaff and several calling birds, some vocal [...]

There was hardly a bird to be heard as we gathered at the Safari Britain campsite on a lovely August morning. The previous day had been hot, but this morning was warm with a welcome breeze and a little light cloud cover.
Moving down from the campsite towards the Coach Road, the beech trees started to [...]

A walk on Saturday morning from Littledene to Stump Bottom, returning via Blackcap Farm, was productive despite the strong winds and occasional showers.
At Littledene there were 2 Red-legged Patridges and halfway up the escarpment a couple of displaying Meadow Pipits, and the first of at least 18 singing Skylarks along the route.
Around the gorse at [...]
Yellowhammer at Glynde

Along Mill Lane, Glynde early this morning, a Yellowhammer ticking away in the hedge. Not rare on the escarpment, but they’re scarcer elsewhere these days, so it was welcome surprise.
The dawn chorus was noticeably rowdy too, with Blackbirds and Song Thrushes starting to motor. Is it too early to wish for spring?

A walk early on Saturday morning from the village to Tilton and back produced Bramblings again, this time on the Firle escarpment just to the east of the Plantation.
At least one bird was heard on two occasions, amongst the small groups of Chaffinches leaving the woods – perhaps leaving the roost for their regular feeding [...]

A report today on the Sussex Birds Yahoo Group of at least eight Bramblings in a large mixed flock of Chaffinches, Greenfinches, Goldfinches and Yellowhammers near Bo Peep today.
The flock is apparently present in ‘game cover and adjacent bushes’ about half a mile SW of Bo Peep car park, along the footpath to Denton.
Flocks [...]
