The winter thrushes keep on coming – 240 Redwings and Fieldfares counted by Paul yesterday in the ‘usual’ fields just south of the village centre.

A few reports of scarce raptors in the local vicinity over recent days, with a Hen Harrier seen close to the A27 at the Kingston roundabout , and Merlin reported on private land west of Lewes. (both per SOS site)

Another lovely mid-autumn weekend. On Saturday morning, diurnal migration was pronounced in the local area. A walk along the Ouse in central Lewes produced a flock of Goldfinches, plus several Skylarks and Meadow Pipits overhead, with Grey Wagtail and Kingfisher along the river itself, and Great spotted Woodpecker, Jay and Chiffchaff at the Pells.
