After some unpromising evenings earlier in the week, Thursday evening was clear for the 20 or so guests of the Safari Britain camp.
As we arrived, the ongoing influx of Painted Ladies was still in evidence, and a few of the regular warblers (Whitethroat, Chiffchaff), Blackbirds and Robins sang around the campsite.

Cuckoo at Glynde

No sooner has I moaned about it, a Cuckoo (the Cuckoo?)appeared over my head at Glynde Station this morning. Remind me to moan more often.
About the same time, a Little Egret flew over the village toward Glynde Levels, and Whitethroat, Long-tailed Tit and Swallow were all highly visible from the bridge.

Having been told there is a Cuckoo calling loudly around Glynde, I’m wondering what else I’m missing nearby.
Any local Nightingales out there, for instance? I know they’re loud, but no matter how much I listen from the bathroom window in the dead of night, I still haven’t heard one.

Poor weather between mid May and mid June didn’t make it easy for breeding birds across the country. The May Bank Holiday downpours were particularly destructive, with most of the Bitterns’ nests at Minsmere in Suffolk washed out by flash flooding.
