Winter thrushes

The largest mixed flock of Fieldfares and Redwings in Firle thus far this winter – around 75 today in the usual place, the paddocks on the south side of the village centre (thanks Paul).

Interesting to see in the latest SOS Annual Report that a gull seen in Firle Park on 1 April 2007 has been accepted as a Glaucous Gull.
Given the incredible scarcity of large, white-winged gulls in Sussex, particularly inland and away from water, this is almost certainly the same bird I saw over the village on [...]

It’s calmed down a bit since the departure of the shrike, but there are still good birds around: such as the six White-fronted Geese seen at Glynde Levels today (Alan Kitson, per SOS website).
These are presumably the same five that were seen at the end of December on the levels, and later at Arlington Resrvoir, [...]
